BeatMonitor v 1.1 for the iPhone
Measure your heartbeats per minute and maximum heart rate!
BeatMonitor uses the microphone in the iPhone to calculate your
beats per minute (bpm). In addition, BeatMonitor can also
calculate your maximum heart rate (mhr).
Using BeatMonitor is as simple as placing the iPhone on a vein and
then tapping Start. The best location for iPhone placement
is over your heart or wrist.
BeatMonitor works with both the iPhone and iPod Touch. The iPod
Touch requires an external microphone.

Tips for use:
BeatMonitor works best with the onboard microphone.
BeatMonitor does not work through clothing. You must hold the
microphone against your body.
To use BeatMonitor, you must first be able to find a vein and detect
your pulse. Once you are able to consistently find a vein,
BeatMonitor can calculate your bpm.
Place the iPhone’s microphone firmly on a vein and tap Start. You
will know that BeatMonitor has detected a pulse in your vein
when it displays a digital sine wave. If you do not see a continuous sine
wave after tapping Start, you have not identified a vein.
Note!
You should know your maximum heart rate to establish boundaries
during training. To build your aerobic base, most fitness
professionals recommend targeting a heart rate between 55 and 85% of
your maximum heart rate for a period of time, say 30 minutes. |
